Come join us on January 31st, 10:00 AM (Pacific time) for the free “Open Online Math Homework” webinar sponsored by the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources. David Lippman, math professor from Pierce Community College and James Sousa, math Professor from Phoenix Community College, will present the open online math homework system (MyOpenMath.com) that was developed by community college faculty to use with their students and open textbooks.
For math teachers, a free and open textbook is great, but they can be hard to find, and hard to adopt if you’re used to having publisher-provided online homework. In this webinar, David Lippman will introduce Opentextbookstore.com and MyOpenMath.com. Opentextbookstore.com provides a short list of open textbooks covering algebra through calculus that are ready-to-adopt, are available in printed form, and often have additional ancillaries available.
For many of these books, MyOpenMath.com provides free, online, algorithmically generated homework, similar to WebAssign, which can be used by instructors with their classes, or by students for self-study. Many even include video lessons, classroom worksheets, and other resources. David will share the precalculus courses he created and his experiences using them in his classes. James Sousa will share the pre-algebra and trig courses he created and his experiences using them in his classes.
