OCWC Welcomes New Members (October 2013)

New Institutional Members

1. Cuyahoga Community College, USA

Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) opened in 1963 as Ohio’s first community college and remains Ohio’s oldest and largest public community college. For nearly 50 years Tri-C has provided high quality, affordable education and programs to more than 900,000 members of their community.

Motivation for joining OCWC

Tri-C joined OCWC to help increase adoption & use of OER in their institution. In the future Tri-C hopes to scale up and expand to support the OCWC movement institutionally, locally and nationally.

2. Michigan Community College Virtual Learning Collaborative, USA

The Michigan Community College Virtual Learning Collaborative (MCCVLV) provides Michigan community colleges the opportunity to take collective advantage of the expertise of its faculty and staff to provide a wide range of courses, programs and services. It spurs creative thinking in how to provide these programs and services so that the needs of the learners in Michigan, across the nation, and around the world, can be met by Michigan community colleges.

Motivation for joining OCWC

The MCCVLC hopes to increase the use of OERs within the Michigan community colleges. In support of that goal, MCCVLC will establish a repository and fund development of OERs by their community college faculty. Additionally they will continue their professional development activities by showcasing best practices in the design, development and use of open educational resources.

3. Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, France

The Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) represents one of the biggest linguistic zones in the world. The French language and its humanist values represent the two cornerstones on which the OIF International is based. OIF organizes political activities and actions of multilateral cooperation that benefit French-speaking populations.

Its actions respect cultural and linguistic diversity and serve to promote the French language, peace and sustainable development. An important program of its Direction of Education and Youth is IFADEM. Jointly run by the OIF and the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie, and in partnership with the ministries of education of the countries concerned, the Initiative Francophone pour la Formation à Distance des Maîtres (IFADEM) is a program that aims to improve elementary school teachers’ French language skills and French language teaching skills. IFADEM supports international efforts to provide quality primary education for everyone.

Motivation for joining OCWC

The OIF supports international efforts to provide quality primary education for everyone to reach the Education for All Goals, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. OIF also supports actively the production and diffusion of open resources as a way to broadcast quality contents for least developed countries. As a member of OCWC, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie can be a doorway to a large number of French speaking countries, at a high political level. It is willing to support concretely OCW actions that would be relevant to its member states (by, for example, building capacities of OER content developers and by funding OER projects).

4. Intellian Technologies, South Korea

Founded in 2004, and recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in the industry, Intellian exports its products to six continents and over 40 countries and has established 400 contracted dealers and a support network worldwide.

Intellian is a global company with operations in five countries. Intellian has offices in Seoul, Pyongtaek, and Busan, South Korea, the US and the UK.

Motivation for joining OCWC

Intellian believes that open education is one of the key factors driving innovation. Intellian joins the OCW Consortium as a way to express their commitment to quality educational materials to their industry partners in need. They are planning to support the OCW movement by creating relevant and high quality educational curriculum about satellite communications systems.
